"dead tree"

14" by 18" oil on acrylic on canvas

This began with a background of green gold, raw sienna and burnt umber, all Golden acrylics. I loved the effect and when I began my planned painting I got as far as the dead tree and stopped.
Some may speculate about my penchant for dead trees and I have, believe me got comments on being depressed because the colours and subject are depressing (i dont think so ) I even got one comment about phallic symbols. I just like trees. Trees without foliage look majestic to me.

"a foggy night somewhere"

16" by 20" oil on canvas

I painted this in watercolour in art class originally. It is from a photocopy of a photocopy (etc.) of a photograph, pretty grainy in any event. I liked the results of the watercolour and decided to paint it in oil. My wife's sister got the first one and my brothers wife asked me to paint her one (photograph).

"Dunes under a blue sky"

14" by 18" oil on canvas

Just trying to get the brush moving smoothly and this developed. It is similar to something I have seen somewhere I just can't remember where. Funny how the mind works.

"Ducks arse"

16" by 20" oil on acrylic on canvas.

I did this painting as an exercise at art school. It is a close up of a metal worked sculpture of a duck (sculptor unknown). It is literally the ducks arse.

"Mt. St. Michel, France"

12" by 12" oil on canvas
When I visited Mt. St. Michel it looked like it was floating on a bed of marsh grass and water. Of course their is a causeway between the mainland and the island but it still gave that feeling as you were driving up. It is a beautiful place. I tried to capture that sense of floating on a misty sea when I did the painting.

"Acer tree"

7" by 13" oil on acrylic on a wooden board.

Dead trees in a stark dusk like environment somehow strike a chord with me and the splash of colour ( ala Monet ) I think heightens the effect.

"Amorphous limestone"

30" by 30" oil on acrylic on canvas

Nothing much to say about this I just loved the colours and the micrograph image.
